1 John 1:1 – 2:2 – John 20:19-23

Could someone please make it dark in here.  Thank you.

Uhm, but I can still see people. Can you please make it more dark.

Okay, really, all you did was try to get rid of the light. Could you please make it darker.

Can you please go and  turn on the darkness switch to make it darker in here.

So are you telling me that you can not make it darker?  You can’t go and buy more darkness?

Numbers 21:4-9Ephesians 2:1-10John 3:14-21

It is interesting, isn’t it? We live in this amazing world, that seems to not to want anything to do with goodness or things that are good, but it sure loves its heroes, doesn’t it? For example, Marvel Comics, one of the two top comic book producers in the United States has over a hundred super heroes of its own, never mind the other hundreds of superheroes created by other comic book producers, authors, and Hollywood producers.  And look at yesterday. People aren’t willing to celebrate God’s work or God’s creation, and yet they’re willing to wear green and wear crazy hats to celebrate a saint. A saint! So who was this saint?

Mark 8: 31-38

Who do you say that I am?

Who do you say that Jesus is? (Prince of Peace, Wonderful Counselor, Messiah, Son of God, Lamb of God, etc., etc.)

Excellent, so what evidence is there that Jesus is those things?

And if Jesus is in fact these things, what does that mean to you?

So imagine you are Peter, you have been asked by this guy to follow Him and He has done some ridiculous things, including healing, casting out demons, showed you Moses and Elijah, and you heard God’s own voice tell you that this is God’s son, His beloved.  You start to believe He is the Messiah, even though He doesn’t match your idea or your expectations of the Messiah riding in on a white stallion and throwing over the Roman dictatorship. And then He tells you He’s going to die. What? Pardon? Uff-da.

Mark 9:2-9

He had been on the side of the road for what seemed like hours, but he had probably been pulled over for only twenty minutes when lights finally appeared over the hill behind him.  He had just come over that hill when a light on his dashboard blinked on, and it wasn’t soon after that when he found himself coasting for the approach he was now parked in.

Mark 1:14-20

Greg, imagine you are in the middle of harvest, its been a stressful harvest, tractors breaking down, weather has been poor to say the least, and you are pushing that combine to the max to use as much of this brief window of time as possible.  A man pulls into your field with his beat up truck and says, “Follow me and I will make you farm for people.”

What do you say?

Well, you’ll say one of three things,

“Sure, let me just finish this row” or field, or harvest or whatever success is contingent on.

Or you might say, “Are you stupid?  Not on your life.”

Or maybe, “Sure.”

If your brain was to make a decision, what would it need in order to make a decision?  For example, you are walking across a street  and a car is heading straight towards you, what do you do?  And how do you make that decision?  So to make any decision, what does your brain need to make that decision or to carry it out?  Information.

Where does our brain get information from?

Throwing a Brick – A Lent 2 – March 20, 2011

“When God Throws a Brick” by Rev. Sam Lloyd with adjustments by me…

I recently heard a talk given by a Minneapolis businessman named Ward Brehm, who with no warning at all began to see his life being turned upside down. It all started when his minister stopped him after church one day and asked him if he’d like to go to Africa. “He might as well have asked me if I’d like to go to the moon,” Brehm said.

Seeing his resistance, the pastor asked, “Will you pray about it?” Brehm looked him square in the eye and said, “Arthur, you’re the minister, you pray about it. I’ll think about it.”
