My Superhero – Epiphany 3 – Jan. 24 2010

It was Grade 11 English, and we were studying the book the Odyssey, you know the famous Greek one about Odysseus, where he goes off to war in Troy and on the  way back he gets pulled into different tasks and challenges that he must complete, not only to get home, but to stay alive.  During our study of the Odyssey, my teacher said that every hero has a flaw.  They are always generally good and have some ability of course, but they all have a flaw.  This flaw causes us to have sympathy for the hero and we are more drawn in to their character.

The Promises – Epiphany 1 – Jan 10 2010

It’s one of those memories that sticks in your mind, but parts are blurry. Although, despite the blurry parts, the lesson learned is clear as day. I was maybe 4 or 5, I don’t think I was in school yet, but then again, I can’t say that for sure either. My mom and I were shopping at the old Shopper’s Drug Mart in Kingsway, remember it used to have the swinging metal gates right by the escalator, the blue arrow told you to use that one to enter, and the other had a red do not enter sign. We had found the toy aisle, and I was consumed as I looked at the selection. Continue reading
